Brampton is a city in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. Brampton was incorporated as a village in 1853, with a population of 50 residents, taking its name from the Town of Brampton in Cumbria, England. In 1873, Brampton was incorporated as a town. Brampton’s population grew to 1,600 by 1881. Bramptons’ growth has been largely driven by immigration and post-World War II population growth. As of 2016, Brampton’s population stood at 523,911—an increase of nearly 5% since the 2011 census.
Brampton ranks the third-largest city in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It is a suburban city located in Southern Ontario, approximately 40 kilometers north-west of downtown Toronto next to the Toronto Pearson International Airport.
