There are plenty of unique shops here and pretty decent restaurants. The area has a lot of character. The town of Whitby also has another downtown in Brooklyn. It is located between Baldwin and Winchester route. You can expect great shopping here. Many activities take place here during the summer.
Commute
Whitby is very commutable. There are highways 407, 412, and 401. The 407 and 412 are toll roads. The 412 connects the 407 to the 401 that runs via the southern part of Whitby. 412 was made as a connector between the two highways. There is a GO train and a GO bus for the commute to downtown Toronto.
Most of the residents of Whitby prefer to go to work via carpooling in a private car, or a van. While public transportation used in the town is buses, and subways.
Due to Toronto being closer to Whitby, many people prefer to work in the metropolitan and economic hub of Toronto. It takes around 40 minutes to travel from Whitby to Toronto via Ontario 401 Express. The distance is 57 kilometers. If you travel by bus the time taken to reach Toronto is a bit longer but more affordable than the train.
If you want to travel to Toronto by car then you have to know that the commute during the rush hour can be tough and the roads can be congested.
One of the cons of living in Whitby is there isn’t much public transport to get around Whitby like it is in Toronto. For example, there aren’t any subways or streetcars in Whitby. Hence, if you don’t know how to drive then it can be pretty inconvenient in this small town.

Moreover, everything is close to wherever you must be living whether it’s the green spaces, trails, lakefront, and the harbor.

Things To Do In Whitby
Unlike Toronto and Montreal, Whitby is a place that shuts down at 9 p.m. Of course, the grocery stores are open even after that but, it is not like it is in other big cities.
The restaurants here offer great food however it is not as diverse as you would find in big metropolitan cities.
You would find plenty of parks here, as well as golf clubs. There are museums to visit with your family and lovely beaches to have a picnic.
